Care Guide For Fresh Flowers
To ensure that your beautiful floral arrangements stay vibrant and fresh for as long as possible, follow these simple care tips:
1. Trim the Stems
Upon receiving your flowers, the first thing you should do is trim the stems.
Cut the stems at an angle (about 1 inch or 2.5 cm). This helps the flowers absorb water more efficiently.
2. Prepare the Vase
Clean your vase thoroughly before use to remove any bacteria that could shorten the lifespan of your flowers.
Fill the vase with lukewarm water (not cold or hot) to the appropriate level. A good rule of thumb is to fill the vase halfway or enough to cover the stems but not submerge the flower heads.
3. Arrange Your Flowers
Gently remove any leaves that will sit below the waterline in the vase to prevent rot and bacteria growth.
Arrange your flowers in the vase, being mindful not to overcrowd them. This allows each bloom to receive the air and light it needs to stay fresh.
4. Place in a Cool, Indirect Light Area
Keep your flowers out of direct sunlight, as intense heat and sunlight can promote wilting.
Avoid placing your flowers near fruits, as ripening fruits emit ethylene gas, which can cause flowers to wilt prematurely.
Ideal spots for your bouquet include tables away from windows, air conditioning units, or heaters, which can dry out the flowers too quickly.
5. Change the Water Regularly
Every 2-3 days, change the water in the vase to keep it fresh and free from bacteria.
Re-trim the stems each time you change the water, as a fresh cut helps your flowers absorb more water.
If you're not able to change the water daily, add a small amount of fresh water and floral preservative each day.
6. Remove Wilted Flowers
As individual flowers start to wilt, remove them from the arrangement to prevent them from affecting the other blooms. This will help maintain the overall freshness of the bouquet.
7. Keep Petals Dry
Water droplets on the petals can cause them to rot. If your flowers get wet, gently blot the petals with a soft, dry cloth.
